Duke of Edinburgh – William Edwards
We are extremely proud of having a large number of students who decide to take up the challenge of the DofE award each year.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award was founded by HRH Prince Phillip in 1956. During his time as the Patron, the scheme has been dedicated to the personal development of young people from all backgrounds and is the widest reaching programme of any UK youth charity.

Due to the passing of HRH Prince Philip, the King conferred upon Prince Edward the title ‘The Duke of Edinburgh’ succeeding his father and creating a new chapter for the Award as he becomes the new Patron of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the International Award.
The Award is an outstanding initiative open to every 14–24 year-old. It offers young people the opportunity to take part in a highly regarded, challenging and fulfilling scheme which will not only benefit the awardee but their communities too.
At William Edwards we offer the Bronze Award to students at the start of year 9. For those who complete their Bronze Award they will be given the opportunity to progress to the Silver Award in year 10. As for the Gold Award if we have strong enough candidates, we will pursue this level with students at the start of year 11 with the hope of completing the expedition after their GCSE exams.
